i’m not against vision in itself, it’s that corporate vision type thing that means people have to sign up to loads of stuff, sell themselves to it, just to belong. that corporate vision thing i hate and i can’t see what it has to do with being church.
I think, “go make disciples”, “love one another” etc etc are good vision statements. But vision is good and leadership is good, Paul warned the Galatians about falling for false teaching, their needs to be purpose and direction.
Gordon Cosby (emerging church pioneer since the 1940s) was known to speak of “Vision, the Destroyer of Essence.”
