I’d bet my last dollar that worship songs are the biggest source of heresy and dishonesty in the church today.
We wouldn’t stand out on the street with a loudhailer and shout “I’m letting God have his way with me in every single area of my life without exception, complaint, or hesitation” but we happily sing it without a second thought.
There is a little book about this which I want to read called “We’ll now move into a time of Nonsense”

I usually stop singing if I’m not sure I mean it, or if I don’t agree with it. Why lie?
As for writing our own worship song … here’s the chorus:
Here I stand, staring at the screen
Mouthing words I’m not sure if I mean
The people standing next to me
All seem to be so keen
But here I stand, staring at the screen.
I do the same, I don’t sing words I don’t believe in. Sometimes I kinda pray through songs that I really want to be true in my life. sometimes I just can’t even do that….so I just stand staring at that Projector Screen!

hahah! we have a song at my former church that sounds a little like that…

..no, if you don’t mind,
I’ll just sing about it…
DOING it might be a little uncomfortable…

HA! I’ve said that so many times!
Hilarious.
It’s very distracting to start paying attention to the lyrics of praise songs.

I’ve often wondered if I should sing a worship song if I don’t mean the words.

make up your own! see if you can spontaneously come up with something more honest. let me know how it goes.
