  1. Its worse than that he’s dead Jim!

In the course of the discussions about the whole sexuality stuff something very important was noticed by the lambeth types. That large swathes of the new generation (I read this to be anyone other than a Bishop!)do not seem to hold the whole idea of denominations as imporatant or valid. My lot only know that they are ‘Anglican’ if they ask us and have little idea of what it means to be so called. – They do know what it means to be Jesus followers though.
If the new generation, even in part, do not see the valididty of the structure of the old. Then it is doomed, much more surely than it is when we disagree over matters of doctrine.

Arguing over doctrine is like worrying about the structure and paint scheme of the building. Whilst we have been doing that the very foundations are leaving, not so much leaving as in fact realigning on the cornerstone in a different shape.

    Wake up Bishops!

  4. Re #1 Quote “Whilst we have been doing that the very foundations are leaving”.

Hmm I wonder why that could be? Could it have something to do with doctrine?

  5. Thats the thing miri – the scary thing is that I’m not sure anyone notices! they are all too busy arguing about it!

  8. bit ironic when the bishops were protesting in London a few weeks to end world poverty- 1.2 million might be small in the scale of things, but would have made a tiny difference.

  12. Why have a conference?

  13. Why have a conference?

There’s one way created of looking at and assessing personality types which has determined the largets majority are of a generalized personality type having an inherent need to organize, list, delegate, outline, categorize, create associations/institutions, and such.

The majority of people Have To – they cannot help it.

  14. Blimey, I can’t believe the cost of the event. I heard that one of the African bishops commented on how he was getting three cooked meals a day at the conference, yet he never knew if he would get a meal of any description from day to day at home.

    Hmmmmmm… Lost for words, really

  15. Just thinking, did the conference cost £12.5m, or was it that the C of E was already in defecit and this has merely worsened it? I’m presuming the latter.

    Still, bad place to be.

    Never said by bones…

Erm… am I annony-mouse? There are more bish than 150 years ago. like about 100% more. With about 100% more expense….

chart this against the general anglican population…. erm….. well we’ve bumped everyone to bishop and left no followers…. what’s your business model?

If anyone sends this to my superiors I am firked ;)

  19. I won’t.

  20. Hmm, I’m in two minds about this.

Firstly, I’m wondering how many youth workers/clergy could have been employed for the £1.2m overspend.

But I would whole heartedly agree it is important for the heads of churches to meet and discuss and pray and seek God’s guidance and vision.

While we criticise this type of spending, how many of us will be going on a ’secular’ holiday where God will be pushed to the margins (even more than normal)? Could that money have been used more directly for God kingdom instead?

I’m going on one next week ;p

So I don’t feel in a place to criticise the CofE who tried to put on a conference for the good of the church, yet (in some ways) failed.

    Comment by youthworkerpete — August 14, 2008 @ 1:12 pm

  21. 8. Agreed – I’ve asked people to start thinking about conferences to assess the cost versus the output. And if the Anglican communion is an international entity, why is the CofE caught picking up the entire tab?

Sometimes, we need to come together in person – for example, the reports I read on Lambeth was that people meeting on hot topics in small discussion groups were able to simmer down and truly dialogue – the atmosphere of online exchanges can cause things to heat up with people hurling comments they’d never dare utter in public. (I’ve been guilty of this as well.)

    12. I prefer festivals over conferences – you get fellowship, talks, worship, exchange ideas, church cooperatives can share/sell their wares, beer, etc.
