  4. The woman I love is home from 5 days in hospital for knee replacement surgery and is doing well.
Dem kittenz and I were missing her.

I think I can honestly say not only was she missing home, but the home itself was missing her.
There was just a sense that some, oh, “spirit of home”, was missing a big part of home that makes home be home.

  5. that’s like where I work, there’s a surprising number of patients with ‘alerts’ on their screen, saying “GIVE THIS PATIENT WHAT THEY ASK FOR” and it’s not only the children who jump about on the furniture

  7. Given that she was born on 26th November 1939 she looks pretty lively for a 70 year old! :-)

  8. That’s really funny Jon – how do you come up with these things? I think it would be quite fun to stand on the doctor’s desk and start singing next time I am in there – I think the men in white coats may come and get me though. Hmmmmmmmm got to be a good vissual gag in there somewhere.

  9. Hahaha! Love this one. I used to have this fantasy…no, not like that! I guess I’m not the only one who plays out scenes from the situation comedy of my life in my head. In this one, I’m at an interview for a teaching post, before a panel of interviewers. The Head Teacher moves on to his next question…”So, Carole, could you tell us what it is that made you want to apply for this post?” I sit for a few seconds, gather my thoughts and proceed to answer, “Well, I suppose, really,. it’s just that…(stands up, musical accompaniment)…I believe that children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way, show them all the beauty they possess inside…” It’s not just me, is it? ;)

Back to the cartoon, when we embark upon a loving relationship, sadness and hurt, at some point, is part of the deal. Why do we do it? Because life is infinitely more full with love than without, I suppose. It’s what being human is all about.

Forrest, I think I know what you mean. My home really doesn’t come to life until we are all there together. Best wishes for your good lady’s swift recovery.

  10. Isn’t that a scene from School of Rock Carole?

    Comment by Robb — November 14, 2009 @ 2:22 pm

  11. Really? Dunno…never seen the film. Been having the fantasy since my first PGCE in 2001 so maybe they stole my idea.

  12. Then you must see it. Then you will know what it was like to be in one of my classes when I was a teacher

  13. I’ll put it on the list with all the Star Wars films…and then when I finally get the big telly…

  14. “… It is an approach that which emphasizes the priority of love: not as something which stands opposed to knowledge of God, or even as simply more important than knowledge of God, but, more radically still, AS knowledge of God.

To love is to know God, precisely because God is love. The emergent community, at its best, can teach us again that love must be the first word on our lips and also the last, and that we must seek to incarnate that sacred word into the world…”

Peter Rollins, How (not) to speak of God, part 1.

  15. Haha, Jon. Love it.

I aecretly really like musicals, the cheesier the better, and kind of wish people actually did that sort of thing in real life. Wouldn’t it be great? Like everyone in Tesco breaking out into a spontaneous yet beautifully choreographed routine, for example. It would just make life more fun don’t you think?

  20. Reminds me of the old joke…

Patient: Doctor, I can’t stop singing “Delilah”, “Green Green Grass of Home”, etc

Doctor: I see. It seems that you’re suffering from Tom Jones Syndrome.

    Patient: is that common?

    Doctor: (sings) It’s not unusual…

  21. Take a look at my heart now
    see the castle I’ve built
there to kee the hurt memories
Can the walls come tumbling down?

take a look at my life here
    keep you at arm’s length
just to stop love from hurting
can the walls come tumbling down?
