  1. Many a true word spoken in jest…. (I know that’s not an interesting comment in any way at all, but I just wanted to be first!)

  2. This one really speaks to me. Yes, truly I do love my neighbours who are the sweetest, loveliest most helpful Christian family imaginable…but I have lived through a crash course of piano lessons, from zero to grade 8 through the medium of Scott Joplin’s ‘The Entertainer’ (I HATE that tune!), four hours a day for about 6 months…accoustic guitar and flute I can cope with, but we’ve had piano (accoustic and electric), electric guitar, beginner’s drums and the other day, my worst nightmare, the trumpet. When we all get to heaven (haha!) can I please go in the soundproof booth?

  4. If Jesus had lived between a nightclub and an Italian restaurant with marquee extension where ‘Happy Birthday’ is sung every night, he might have had second thoughts.

  5. I tell you, if I could just remember the Cross when every negative thought crosses my mind – or negative word crosses my lips – I’d be a happier person (and so would those around me!)

    Thanks

  6. Could someone please tell me, do you have to click on a subscription activation link (sent in an email) for each cartoon you comment on on here?

The support staff at WordPress are trying to tell me that’s normal, but I’ve only had to start doing it recently and only on this blog. They asked me to find out if this was the case for anyone else.

  7. Just you Tiggy – you are special ;)

I sometimes hate the random thoughts in my head. That’s why I always have music on. It drowns out the voices ;)

  8. Very similar story to the cartoon, and hereby offered for the free use of any preachers reading – after all, I felt totally free to nick it myself:

It’s Christmas and a very harrassed woman staggers into a lift in a shopping centre at the end of a day’s shopping. She’s laden down with bags of stuff, and is headed back to her car. As the doors close behind her, she greets the assembled company with a sigh, and “Show me the man who invented Christmas and I’ll shoot him”.

“No need, madam”, said someone quietly. “They already crucified him”.

  9. By the way, nothing to do with this cartoon at all (which I like a lot, by the way, Jon) but I want to tell everyone that this week is Prisoners Week.

    I am shamelessly plugging it.*

The purpose of Prisoners Week is simply to remind the general churchgoing public of the existence of prisoners, and to care about them and pray for them.

We had a great service in one of the jails I work in last night, and an even better one tonight in the other one. The services were attended by local church folk who outnumbered the prisoners. This was a lovely demonstration to the guys that the Church cares about them – on a dark, wet Scottish night it would have been easier for the public to stay at home. I’m still buzzing!

    * And yes, Jon, I know plugging things is an abuse of someone else’s blog, so I half-apologise and may fully apologise once I come down and am actually sorry!

  13. I love the mystery of the cross in this cartoon, it’s acceptance that it’s tuff to get along with each other, and our need – of the cross, of a God who loves us that much
