Really crap year last year and had that said to me a couple of times…not sure I was even holding on with a finger!! So annoying!!
The phrase is often used God does not GIVE us anymore than we can cope with…I know God DIDN’T give me the situations last year!
Nice.
God never lets us be pushed beyond HIS ability to cope, which is something rather different from OUR ability to cope. His strength is perfected in our weakness…
Actually a misquote of Corinthians 10:13. “…he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear…”, and in context, this reads entirely different to the above sentiment. I’m pretty sure you didn’t mean to imply the cliff hanger was tempted to jump, Jon?
Aye, Annanias and Saphira coped wonderfully with their punishment.
I love the ASBO Jesus cartoons, I know the spirit they are done – I didn’t read Into it that Jon had said that, just putting my experience into the mix! I love how thought provoking they are!
I can resist everything except temptation.
Oscar Wilde
Ummm, if we’re not careful Jon is going to do another cartoon of several Christians discussing the finer points of theology, rather than reaching out a hand to save the poor guy who is STILL hanging on by his fingernails…
Sorry for the double post – also meant to say, Jon, could you correct the typo? I assume you meant to say ‘our’ not out’?
Ah, yes. It may well be a misquote, but it is also an oft-trotted out platitude by folk well-meaning enough but who don’t really know how to respond to a situation authentically…how often are we guilty of that without even realising.
charlotte… what a lovely thing to say. thank you.
astolat… thanks for the heads up on the typo. sorted.
carole… yep, oft misquoted and oft used to make people feel better, whether appropriate or not. i also believe it to be not true.
astolat… you read my mind… i do indeed have a cartoon of that ilk coming up.
Yep, yep, yep.
hang on in there
Been there. Would have like to smack the bloke with my free hand.
this phrase drives me absoloooootely nuts. thank you for this!
the ‘god doesn’t give us more than we can bear’ cliché is never really helpful anyway, surely?! thanks for the cartoons, they’re great and thought provoking.
you’re welcome anidealworld… thanks for the kind comment.
heathermaystanley… it does me too!
